Chapter 1 - The Worst Expectation

Chapter One: The Worst Expectation

It was such a fantastic afternoon today! My friends and I had a post celebration party of our graduation and our newly acquired licensed as a clinical laboratory scientist. After all the hardships that we’ve done, still, it is fulfilling achievement. And now, that we are one step closer to our next target which is to study “medicine proper” that will take us to another journey of sleepless night and another four years of academic studies in order for us to become a professional physician. But first things first, before we continue our studies, we must first unwhine and have a vacation that could relax our heavily “used” mind because of studies. And the thing that comes into our mind is TRAVELLING. My friend Ana, was busy organizing our trip to Taiwan to visit some historical sites and also she was hoping that she could see her favorite long time crush and singer Wang LeeHom. Actually, I’m only coming she asked me to… No! not ask but beg… so I have no choice but to say with a stoic face “Yes, I would love too.” The only problem with Ana was that every time we are not studying she kept on saying things about LeeHom! LeeHom here, LeeHom that, everything! Sometimes  I tried to ignore her when she was about to tell me about LeeHom’s doings but then again, she will always looked to my bored eyes and hold my face and will plead to me like a baby “please?” is the common word that she keep on saying to me. But what can I do? Ana and I are best friends since 5, and we grew up together.

I remembered when we was in our toddler years, that she was the first one who came into my place and offered me a bunch of sandwiches. Yeah! Sandwiches! Because of that little sandwiches, I found my most trusted and dearest friend in the whole wide world. Through thickness and thin, we are one. It was like in the Three Musketeers, One for all, All for one, but the difference is that we are just only two.. not a “groupie.” Even our college degree, we took up the same course, so no wonder we are one. The only thing that we didn’t match was our favorite artist. Ana was always loyal to her country thus, her favorite was of course Wang LeeHom. But for me, how I love American artist like Tom Cruise and Bradd Pitt.. such a total hunk aren’t they? But then again, I also found interests on our local artists like Jane Zhang, Khalil Fong, Elva Hsiao and Jolin Tsai. But right now, I’m addicted to the british boyband One direction! Because of the vocals and of course their cute faces, I sometimes wondered if we just didn’t booked for Taiwan and instead go to London… but it is such an expensive trip. So now, I will have to face another fan girl moments with my dearest Ana and be able to tolerate it for 3 weeks. She already made a list on the places that we will go. I think it was all planned since from the start! I wondered again if this trip was for her or for me, she doesn’t ask for my opinions or approvals if I also like the one she was referring to.

“Hey, do you also want to go to Gaoxiong?” She asked me with her fluttering eyes.

“Anywhere, as long as I will enjoy our stay.” I said

“I think that there are lots of spas in there? Based from my researches…” she said to me while her eyes were focused on her ipad.

“Yeah! Anything will do I should say.”

“Oh, are you sure?” She asked me again but this time around, her eyes were on me now.

“100% sure thing!” I said happily, and then I added “ But then I want to stay in Taipei, because Jason said, there are many mouth watery restaurants there.”

“Err…right, Taipei..check!”

“Did you ever consider Jason on our trip?” I inquired.

“Why would I? Did we made up?” She said it with a bitter looking expression on her face.

“Yuck! I can’t believe that you’re still dramatic about that?” I giggled.

“What would I say? That…. It’s fine, we’re alright now?” She replied with a disgusted look on her face.

“Then why did you dump him?”

“Maggie, that’s none of your business… so if we just continue to talk about our trip?”

That’s Ana. She keeps on avoiding some private questions especially when it concerns about her lovelife.

“But Jason said, It wasn’t true… I mean about the “thing” that happened?” I replied to her.

“Maggie, who’s your best friend? Me or Jason?” She was annoyed by me.

“Of course it’s you.” I said it with a low tone and with my perfect stoic face, then I added, “So, what if we talk about LeeHom now?”

And that changed the atmosphere. The mere fact that the name LeeHom was mentioned, she will stay put.

“Oh!” She shouted.

“See, I sometimes wondered maybe you should make him your boyfriend.” I said sarcastically.

“If only I could, Oh… have you heard about his….” Before I could hear her say something about Leehom, I immediately said, “STOP! I don’t wanna hear more of it.” And it silence her.

“Maggie?”

“What?”

“I have a confession to make to you..” Then she hurriedly move to my side and look at me straight into my eyes.

“Gee! Ana.. it’s making me nervous…. Good news or bad news?” I eyed her straight in her face but she was still relaxed.

“Well, partly good and partly bad.”

“Come on, spit it out!” I’m annoyed on her tone.

“Good for me, but bad for you.” She giggled at me.

“Then tell me.” I’m really curious now.

Slowly she said “I joined one of the raffles because I bought 10 albums.”

“What raffle was that? And what does it have to do with me?”

“Because every 10 albums that you buy, you will have a two raffle entries to be able to join the meet and greet.”

“Oh, another fan girl moment again…. So what’s the connection of it to me?”

“Because I also wrote your name there… hoping that if we wn, we will have a fan girl experience of our vacation.

“Who’s the artist?” I asked.

“You know it…” She happily said.

“LeeHom?” I asked again, hoping that it’s not the one that I’m thinking of.

“No!” She laughed again.

“Then who..?” I stopped dead, looking at her straight into her eyes… then slowly, I thought about her favorite artist besides LeeHom… And slowly and slowly I came to realize that it was… “No…No…!....No!” I shouted at her, “No way!” I keep shaking my head at her but she keeps on laughing very hard at me. “No way! Ana…. Not him…” I keep on shouting at her.

“Be a good girl Maggie if you won!” She keeps on cheering me.

“NEVER! NO WAY!” I keep on telling her.

“Be good to him… Maggie.” She told me with her you-know-what-it-is tone.

“NO! I won’t… besides I won’t win.” I glared at her.

Then suddenly her blackberry rang.

“Oh, wait a minute… I got an email.. just for a sec.” She eyed on me and got her blackberry on the table just beside me.

And suddenly I was surprised by the sound of her voice shouting me name. Then I looked at her.

“MAGGIE!!!!” She screamed at me.

“What? And can you please lower down your voice.. my mom can hear you downstairs.”

“MAGGIE!!!” then I covered her mouth with my hands and she looked at me and she gave her blackberry for me to see her email.

To: Ms. Margareth Yu
Congratulations! You are one of the lucky winners that will have the chance to attend the most spectacular musical shower of one and only the mandopop king Jay Chou.

I glanced again at the final word. Hoping that I could changed it, I can’t even managed to read what’s next on the word Jay Chou, who was written it in and it is impossible to digest! I can feel my blood rushed through my vein when I read the name Jay Chou, who is my most hated artist on the Chinese industry. Everything that describes him was annoying!

“Ana, I don’t know if I’m your best friend or not…. Because right now, I want to kill you!” Then I shouted at her very loudly.
